Art of the Marathon

The much beloved American pastime, baseball, is in full swing on these long, summer days. It’s the crack of the bat, the smell of hot dogs sizzling on the grill, boxes of popcorn, crackerjack, and bags of freshly roasted peanuts, that help make the baseball game a timeless memory.
The Red Sox are in second place now, and the Hopkinton Storm is gearing up for a trip to Cooperstown, New York in early August to play in a 12U baseball tournament with teams from around the country. The boys have yearned to play in one of these special events that has been a long time coming for a very excited team of 12-year-olds.

Looking up from a plate of chow, straddling a dusty motorcycle or posing in a crisp dress uniform, the photos of the town's men and women who have served in the military could represent any community across the land.

Area women aimed tested their skills with firearms during a  training session for women  Saturday at the Hopkinton Sportsmen's Association, an event co-sponsored by the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owner's Action League in Northborough.

In the wake of a historic Supreme Court ruling on gun control, shooting instructors for a women-only training session in town tomorrow drew a connection between the legal decision and their pending event.
